NEW DELHI: Australian batsman
Travis Head
admitted to having limited knowledge about Oman, Australia's first opponent in the
T20 World Cup
.
Despite Oman's relatively low ranking (19th) and lack of experience against top-tier teams, Head emphasized a consistent approach in preparation, regardless of the opponent. He stressed the importance of sticking to their game plan and maintaining consistent routines both on and off the field.

Head further shed light on Australia's likely opening combination for the tournament, hinting at a reunion with
David Warner
at the top of the order.
He drew parallels between his successful IPL partnership with
Abhishek Sharma
and his dynamic with Warner, saying, "See the difference is both left-handers - but I think we complement each other well, a little bit like Abhi and myself did. So, yeah, I think looking back in the times Dave and I batted, he's exceptional against spin in the power play. More so, Abhi's strengths were against spin and then that was, so that wasn't hard to go by, like how we come off each other."
"And I think Dave and I we had some really strong partnerships together, faced a lot of different plans, teams will come differently, Oman will come different to England and England will come back, come different to Namibia," he added.
He emphasized their shared understanding and ability to strategize effectively against different bowling lineups. They plan to analyze Oman's potential bowling options and formulate a plan based on their strengths and weaknesses.
"So like, from Davey and I's perspective, going through who they potentially may have and then who we set up better at and who we feel like we've got a plan on and then we adjust from there - is how it's normally worked. I haven't had many conversations with him about that sort of stuff yet, but it becomes pretty natural for our partnership and our relationship. So yeah, we'll pick our targets that we both feel like we're a chance against and then we'll go from there," remarked the Australia international.
The duo's track record speaks for itself. Their 175-run opening stand during the 2023 ODI World Cup against New Zealand, which contributed to Australia's record-breaking total of 388, is a testament to their destructive potential.
As the champions of ICC World Cup 2023, Australia enter the tournament with high expectations. Their opening match against Oman at Kensington Oval in Barbados presents an opportunity to make a strong start and set the tone for the tournament.
