The pitch conditions were described as challenging by Pakistan's pacer Mohammad Amir during the post-match presentation. Despite the tough conditions, Amir emphasized the importance of adapting and focusing on delivering accurate balls.
"As a bowler, you have to adapt to any conditions. I was just trying to hit the right areas, the conditions were demanding. As a professional you have to be clear in your role, I know I have to bowl with the new ball and at the death, I'm ready for anything. I bowled the away swinger for 3-4 deliveries, I then decided to swing it back in (on the dismissal of
Navneet Dhaliwal
). Much needed win, we have to win the next match and then who knows?" said the Pakistani pacer.
Canada, batting first, struggled to build a significant innings against Pakistan's bowling attack, managing to score only 106/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
The Canadian batsmen found it difficult to counter the pace and skill of the Pakistani bowlers, with only Aaron Johnson making a notable contribution of 52 runs from 44 balls. Amir, with figures of 2/13, led the bowling attack, supported by Haris Rauf who also took two wickets.
In response, Pakistan's chase began with a minor setback as they lost an early wicket. However, a crucial second-wicket partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and captain
Babar Azam
steadied the innings.
Rizwan, with an unbeaten 53 from 53 balls, played a key role in guiding Pakistan to victory, achieving the target of 107 runs with seven wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare. Dillon Heyliger was the standout bowler for Canada, taking two wickets.
The victory was significant for Pakistan, placing them third in their group with two points from three matches, equaling Canada's record but ahead on other metrics. Amir was named 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding bowling performance.
