NEW DELHI: In an unexpected and never-seen-before spectacle, head coach
Rahul Dravid
turned medium-pacer in the India nets ahead of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion.
Dravid, who used to bowl part-time spin during his playing days, was seen rolling his arm over but this time as a medium-pacer, surprising the Indian cricket fans.
Alongside Dravid,
Virat Kohli
too was seen bowling his medium-pacers in the warm-up session ahead of the toss
Commentator Sanjay Bangar, who used to play with Dravid, too was surprised seeing the India head coach bowling quick in the warm-up session.
"Well, he did most of the things that were asked of him from a player point of view - opened the batting, batted at 3,5,6, kept wicket. So this is something that I am surprised with. I have never seen Rahul Dravid do this. But it's always good because as coaches you do things that you aren't used to so to see. And there's nothing wrong with his action; he seems pretty aligned and just has to add a little bit of piece. Otherwise, he looks pretty alright," Bangar said.
Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada highlighted the opening day of the first Test with a fifer as India ended the rain-marred day at 208 for 8.
KL Rahul
hit a gritty unbeaten 70 while Kohli and Shreys Iyer hit 38 and 31 respectively.
