NEW DELHI: A comedy of errors unfolded on Day 2 of the 2nd Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
During the 121st over when Sri Lanka's score was 419/6, Sri Lankan batter Prabath Jayasuriya, facing Khaled Ahmed, drove a full delivery outside off, resulting in a thick outside edge towards first slip fielder Shanto.
However, Shanto failed to grasp the opportunity, allowing the ball to ricochet into the air. Despite multiple chances for the slip fielders, including the second and third slip, the ball evaded their grasp.
Even Dipu at the second slip missed the easy rebound, and Zakir's desperate dive from the third slip couldn't prevent the ball from slipping through.
This missed opportunity proved costly for Bangladesh, as Sri Lanka posted 531 in their first innings.
Watch:
Despite six batters reaching the fifty-run mark, Sri Lankan players couldn't convert any of their starts into three-figure scores. Kamindu Mendis, in particular, was left stranded on 92, falling agonizingly short of a well-deserved century. Mendis has consistently showcased his batting prowess, with four scores of at least 50 in his four innings in Tests so far.
As Sri Lanka's innings concluded, Bangladesh found themselves facing a daunting task after toiling for 159 overs.
With the pitch showing no significant challenges, Sri Lanka's determined batting display has left Bangladesh's bowlers fatigued.
However, with the bat in hand, Bangladesh will be eager to mount a strong response, hoping to capitalize on any opportunities that come their way.
