NEW DELHI: Young Rajasthan Royals batter
Riyan Parag
made the mockery of Delhi Capitals pacer
Anrich Nortje
, smashing him for 25 runs in the final over of the innings during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Jaipur.
Parag, who made 43 in the Royals' previous match, stole 25 runs off veteran South African seamer Nortje with scores of 4, 4, 6, 4, 6, 1 to hit his highest T20 score of 84.
A total of seven fours and six massive sixes adorned his unbeaten knock.
Maintaining his aggressive stance, Parag initiated the over with back-to-back boundaries, displaying his intent from the outset. With his confidence soaring, he then unleashed a powerful six, keeping the pressure on the bowler.
Undeterred, Parag continued his assault by hammering yet another boundary and then dispatching the next delivery for a towering six, compounding Nortje's struggles and further boosting the Rajasthan Royals' total.
Parag's innings was marked by crucial partnerships, including a vital 54-run stand with
Ravichandran Ashwin
, who contributed with a rapid 29 runs off just 19 balls, embellished with three sixes.
Additionally, Parag combined effectively with Dhruv Jurel, forging a valuable 52-run partnership, and later partnered with
Shimron Hetmyer
to add another 43 runs to the Royals' total.
Parag's blitzkrieg single-handedly propelled the Royals to a formidable total of 185 for 5 after recovering from 36 for 3 in the eighth over.
