MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Police officers and firefighters rescued a man from the chilling waters of the Hudson River at Pier 57 in Chelsea Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.
Multiple people passing by the area called 911 for a man stuck in the cold water underneath the pier, police said.
At around 7 a.m., members of 10 precincts, Emergency Service officers and FDNY members all sprang into action.
“A male in the water is screaming for help,” can be heard in police body-worn camera footage. “He is underneath the pier at the location, water rescue.”
One officer removes his belt, starts putting on his life jacket, and is lowered into the water using a rope. Multiple first responders can be seen grabbing the male who was in the water, video shows.
The man rescued was placed on a stretcher and taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment, officials said.
It was not immediately clear how the man ended up in the water.
The man is expected to survive, authorities said.
