NEW DELHI:
Yash Thakur
took 5 wickets,
Krunal Pandya
took 3 as Lucknow Super Giants defeated Gujarat Titans by 33 runs at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday. Leg-spinner
Ravi Bishnoi
took only one wicket but that was a one-handed flying catch that broke the internet.
And with
Jonty Rhodes
as their fielding coach, LSG players are expected to come up with such outstanding efforts in the field in
IPL 2024
.
Bishnoi dismissed
Kane Williamson
in the 8th over to derail the GT run chase. Bishnoi bowled an in-drifter at 97.7 kph, fullish in length and Williamson got forward to on-drive.
The former New Zealand skipper didn't quite get to the pitch of the delivery and ended up chipping it in the air. Bishnoi flew to his right in his follow-through and stuck his right hand out to snaffle it out of thin air.
The stunning catch drew applause from Jonty Rhodes who was watching the match from the dug-out.
On Monday, the official X handle of the Indian Premier League shared a video of Rhodes decoding Bishnoi's 'flying catch'.
The video is titled: 'If you don't go, you'll never know. The secret recipe to taking blinders, just like Ravi Bishnoi took one yesterday!'
The video has Rhodes saying, "Someone like Ravi, he exhausts me, he never misses a single day of practice. If we are at the ground, he will take catches every single day. So, he works hard on his bowling, also works on his batting, but when it comes to fielding, he will never sit in the dugout or never hide in the dressing room."
"The added difficulty when you're bowling, in your follow through, to react like that and catch the ball, I think the great thing about that for me was that you went backwards and gave yourself time. Often when you see an edge you kinda go across the ball and you have hard hands. To see that reaction, in less than a second, 0.6 of a second. What were you thinking, did u think?" Rhodes asks Bishnoi.
Bishnoi replies, "No I didn't think anything, I was just reacting, the ball was coming towards me, first my follow-through went left side but after that I thought I can go and get it. There's a saying from you (Rhodes) 'If you don't go you never know'."
Rhodes then compared the size of his palm with that of Bishnoi and says, "They are not very big hands but if you don't put your hands out there you never know."
With 3 wins on the trot, LSG are at the third spot in the points table and play their next game on Friday against Delhi Capitals in Lucknow.
