A video has gone viral on social media, showing a mother in Yekaterinburg, Russia, shielding her five-year-old child from an attack by a Rottweiler.
The footage, first shared by RT Television Network, captures the moment when a Rottweiler lunged at the child on a snowy street. With no one nearby to intervene, the mother instinctively threw herself over her child, using her own body as a shield while the aggressive dog loomed over them.
In the video, the mother can be seen lying in the snow, bleeding from her hands, while the dog remains close by, occasionally barking and growling at bystanders.
Despite suffering severe injuries, the mother held onto her child tightly, refusing to move until help arrived. Emergency responders later transported her to a hospital, where she was treated for multiple wounds and a serious fracture.
The dog had escaped from a resident, it was reported. It wore a metal collar, indicating it was a pet, not a stray.
The video has sparked intense discussions online, with users expressing mixed opinions. One individual argued that the blame should fall on the owner rather than the dog, sharing personal experiences of raising Rottweilers who never showed aggression.
Others took a stronger stance, calling for stricter laws on owning powerful dog breeds. Some suggested that dogs involved in attacks should be put down to prevent future tragedies.
Notably, the Indian state of Goa recently announced a ban on Rottweilers and Pitbull Terriers due to rising safety concerns. The ban would prohibit the import, sale, and breeding of these dogs in the state.
