NEW DELHI: Ahead of the 2024 season, former cricketer for India and current coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR),
Gautam Gambhir
, joined the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions.
The Kolkata-based team's official social media account posted a brief video of Gambhir joining the team on Friday and also posted pictures with the two IPL trophies that the team won in 2012 and 2014.
Gambhir also shared his photo of the homecoming with the caption, "This is my air, these are my people, this is where I stand! #AmiKKR @KKRiders"
Gambhir was appointed 'Mentor' by the Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders in November last year.
Gambhir had led KKR from 2011 to 2017 before leaving the team to lead the Lucknow Super Giants as their "Mentor" for the last two seasons.
Despite making it to the play-offs in both seasons, Lucknow was unable to advance, which is why the team hired
Justin Langer
, a former Australian opener and
T20 World Cup
winner, as coach.
After Langer was signed by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned team, Gambhir's departure was inevitable.
