NEW DELHI: A ten-year wait ended for Indian film industry superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his family as their team Kolkata Knight Riders crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2024 final in Chennai on Sunday as the Knights became the 'Don' of IPL, all over again.
Mitchell Starc
bowled a sensational opening spell to bowl out Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL's lowest total of 113 in a final enroute an eight-wicket thrashing.
Australia's left-arm quick Starc returned figures of 2-14 to live up to his top billing in the world's most lucrative T20 tournament.
Starc went to Kolkata for a record Rs 24.75 crore in the December auction and ended the IPL with two stellar performances, including a match-winning 3-34 in the first playoff to hammer the same opponent.
A day after the victory, the official X handle of the IPL shared a video of SRK celebrating his team's triumph by hugging each and every member of his team, before lifting the trophy with players at the podium.
SRK's celebrations were a little toned down as he had to be admitted to a hospital first in Ahmedabad and then in Mumbai after Qualifier 1 due to dehydration and heat stroke and was discharged just before the final.
SRK watched the final with a mask on and got on to the field quite late for the victory celebrations and took a victory lap of the
Chepauk
thanking the fans and doing his trademark celebratory pose.
It was Kolkata's second title triumph at the venue, after they won their first trophy in 2012, and a near-capacity crowd at the 36,000-seater stadium cheered on.
