Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan found himself in a bizarre situation during a T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands when a Dutch bowler Vivian Kingma's bouncer got stuck in his helmet grill. The incident occurred when Kingma bowled a sharp bouncer aimed at Tanzid's body in the third over of Bangladesh's innings. Tanzid attempted to pull the ball but mistimed his shot, resulting in a top edge that caused the ball to rebound directly into the grill of his helmet. To everyone's surprise, the ball got stuck in the visor and remained there.
As the ball remained stuck in the helmet, Tanzid quickly removed his headgear, and the medical team rushed onto the field to conduct a concussion test. There were immediate concerns for Tanzid's safety, considering the force with which bouncers are bowled. The medical assessment confirmed that Tanzid had not sustained any injury and was fit to continue. The opener's teammates and the crowd breathed a sigh of relief, applauding his resilience and calm demeanor amidst the extraordinary circumstances.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to field against Bangladesh in their Group D match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground on Thursday. With South Africa having already secured one Super Eight spot in Group D, Bangladesh and the Netherlands are vying for the remaining position. Both teams have one win and one loss, with the net run rate currently being the only differentiator.
Bangladesh started their campaign with a two-wicket victory over Sri Lanka but then lost to South Africa despite being in a strong position. The Netherlands defeated Nepal in their opener but also succumbed to South Africa. At the toss, Edwards remarked, "We are going to bowl first. Not too many international games have been played here recently. Our boys are looking forward to it, and we've been playing some good cricket. Aryan Dutt is in for Teja Nidamanuru."
