NEW DELHI:
Pakistan cricket team
may not be as formidable as they used to be in yesteryears, but the tradition of churning out one fast bowler after the other continues unabated.
Ubaid Shah
is the younger brother of
Pakistan
pacer
Naseem Shah
and like his brother, is a right arm medium fast bowler who plays for
Islamabad United
in the
Pakistan Super League
(
PSL
) and has also represented Pakistan under-19 cricket team.
In a video that is doing the rounds on the internet, Ubaid Shah is seen bowling to Pakistan captain
Babar Azam
during a training session.
With fine wrist position, Ubaid Shah pitches the ball outside off-stump, Babar Azam looks to leave the delivery, but the ball, bowled at fine pace, come back in and goes over the stumps.
Babar Azam then tries to hook a short-pitched delivery but misses and is hit on the body.
Left-handed batsman
Fakhar Zaman
too is seen struggling against Ubaid Shah in the video. Fakhar Zaman looks to play a defensive shot on the back foot, but the ball moves away and goes straight to the keeper, narrowly missing the edge of the bat.
Ubaid Shah was named in the ICC team of the tournament after picking up 18 wickets at an average of less than 14 runs per wicket as Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the 2024 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
And don't be surprised if the 18-year-old Ubaid Shah soon makes his international debut for Pakistan senior cricket team.
