is going on sale and just as Apple’s ‘next big thing’ hits the shelves, company CEO Tim Cook has appeared on the cover of
Vanity Fair magazine
wearing the headset. This is important because since the announcement of Vision Pro, none of the company senior executives, let alone Cook, was seen wearing the headset online.
While Tim Cook has already shared a short clip showing how the Vision Pro is manufactured, this is probably the first instance where Cook has talked about the headset in detail.
Cook first wore the headset, which was not a finished product, “maybe six, seven, or even eight” years ago. At that time, the headset was just a combination of screens, some wires coming out of it that were connected to a supercomputer in another room, some buttons, and cameras that were “sticking out like whiskers.”
Cook describes it as a “monster”, “An apparatus”. “You weren’t really wearing it at that time. It wasn’t wearable by any means of the imagination,” Vanity Fair quoted Cook as saying.
Cook was “on the moon” with Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong of Apollo 11 while he saw “ghostly luminescence of ancient dust under a black, star-studded sky.” All this was happening in a secret room where he can also see other Apple employees, and his own hands.
“I’ve known for years we would get here. I didn’t know when, but I knew that we would arrive here,” Cook said.

When asked whether AI, spatial computing and other reliance on technology if technology is moving too quickly, and, “What does the future of it all look like?” he replied, “I think it’s hard to predict exactly.”
“But you’re making it. So don’t you get to predict it?” he was asked.
“What we do is we get really excited about something and then we start pulling the string and see where it takes us,” Cook said.
“And yes, we’ve got things on the road maps and so forth, and yes, we have a definitive point of view. But a lot of it is also the exploration and figuring out. Sometimes the dots connect. And they lead you to some place that you didn’t expect,” he added.
What Cook said about Vision Pro during earnings call
During the latest earnings call, the Apple CEO said that the Vision Pro will initially be available in the US and will come with other countries later this year. He said that the headset has been “built on decades of Apple innovation.”
“We are announcing these results on the eve of what is sure to be an historic day as we enter the era of spatial computing. Starting tomorrow, Apple Vision Pro, the most advanced personal electronics device ever, will be available in Apple stores for customers in the US, with expansion to other countries later this year,” Cook said.
“Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary device built on decades of Apple innovation, and it’s years ahead of anything else. Apple Vision Pro has a groundbreaking new input system and thousands of innovations, and it will unlock incredible experiences for users and developers that are simply not possible on any other device,” he added.
Apple Vision Pro is priced at $3,499 and its first major release since the Apple Watch nine years ago.
