NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Videos circulating on social media show wanted posters in New York City with photos of healthcare CEOs a week after the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown.
The posters were spotted near Canal and Centre Streets in Lower Manhattan but have been taken down as of Wednesday afternoon. A video posted to TikTok shows the posters adhered to an electrical box with photos of Thompson and two other healthcare CEOs.
The posters read “Healthcare CEOs should not feel safe,” and the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose,” which were found on bullet casings at the scene of Thompson’s shooting, according to police sources.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to PIX11 News’ request for comment about the posters.
The wanted signs come a week after Thompson was fatally shot outside a Hilton hotel in what law enforcement officials have called a premeditated, targeted attack. A 26-year-old from Maryland, Luigi Mangione, faces murder and other charges related to the shooting.
NYPD officials said there has been an increase in threats to some companies, and the NYPD is working with healthcare companies to address potential copycat threats.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said he has “no tolerance” for violence such as the New York City shooting.
“In a civil society, we are all less safe when idealogues engage in vigilante justice,” he said.
