Virat Kohli equals unwanted record despite 67-ball ton

NEW DELHI:

Virat Kohli

was at his belligerent best in

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

's

IPL 2024

clash against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.
Virat smashed his 8th IPL 100 off 67 balls, that was his 9th in T20 cricket and the first against Rajasthan Royals.
Virat remained unbeaten on 113 off 72 balls and his knock was studded with 4 sixes and 12 fours, powering RCB to 183/3.

However,

Virat

equalled the record of the slowest IPL hundreds (by balls taken).
And that record belonged to

Manish Pandey

- the first Indian to hit a hundred in the IPL. Playing for RCB, Pandey had hit a 67-ball ton against Deccan Chargers at Centurion in the 2009 edition.
The next in the list are

Sachin Tendulkar

, David Warner and Jos Buttler, who all scored their centuries off 66 deliveries.
But

Kohli

has most hundreds in the IPL. He has smashed 8 tons for RCB and

Chris Gayle

is at the second spot with 6 hundreds.

With 22 hundreds, Chris Gayle heads the list of most hundreds in Men's T20 cricket, followed by Babar Azam (11) and Virat Kohli (9).
With 18 centuries, RCB heads the list of most individual hundreds for a team in Men's T20 cricket.
"The wicket looks quite different from the outside. It feels like it's flat, but the ball is holding up in the pitch, that's when you realise the pace changes. One of us (Virat or Faf) had to bat till the end. I feel this total is effective on this pitch. I am not coming in with any premeditation. I knew I couldn't get over aggressive, just that I had to keep the bowlers guessing. It's just experience and maturity of playing the conditions. Even if there's dew, the surface is rough and dry, won't be easy for the batters. I couldn't get under the ball against Ashwin. Couldn't slog towards mid-wicket, so had to target straight down the ground," Virat Kohli said after his knock.
