If you think students travelling abroad for their studies have a great life, this Instagram video will prove you wrong. Nishat, an Indian student in Toronto, shared a video showing the intense competition for part-time jobs among international students in Canada. The video, showing a long queue of applicants outside a Tim Hortons outlet, has gone viral and left people surprised at the situation.
Nishat, who has been searching for a part-time job for a month, described his experience at a Tim Hortons job fair. Despite arriving 30 minutes early, he was met with a queue of over 100 students. "More than 100 students had already shown up for the job fair. Looking at the long line, even the white people nearby were shocked, thinking what the hell is happening here," he was heard saying in the video in Hindi.
At the job fair, Tim Hortons staff collected resumes and enquired about the applicants' schedules before dismissing them with the promise of a future interview call. The video captures Nishat’s frustration and determination as he recounts his day. After attending the job fair, he travelled to another store, quite far from his home, to apply for a position there as well. "I don't know if I will find a job at either store. So this was my day full of struggle," he shared.
