notched up the highest score of the

IPL 2024

as his unbeaten 89 helped Gujarat Titans post an imposing 199/4 against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Gill's first fifty of the season saw him smash six fours and four sixes during a 48-ball stay at the crease.
The Gujarat Titans' captain Gill displayed a remarkable batting prowess, showcasing a perfect blend of timing and controlled aggression in his innings, exemplifying sheer brilliance at the crease.

Lauding his knock, former India all-rounder

Irfan Pathan

equated Gill with

Virat Kohli

for the composure he displayed throughout his innings.
"Shubman Gill looks so much in control playing t20 cricket. Very much like Virat. Tries to play correct cricket not so much power but pure timing," Pathan posted on X.

2011 World Cup hero

Yuvraj Singh

also expressed his joy over Gill's knock.
"Gill is back ! So am I! Well played @ShubmanGill does @PunjabKingsIPL have the firepower to chase this score on a big ground," wrote Yuvraj.

Gill began the innings in spectacular fashion, smashing spinner Harpreet Brar straight over his head for the match's first six. He brought up his fifty off 31 balls with a boundary behind deep square leg in the 15th over.
Gill was at his imperious best in front of the wicket as he dispatched Harshal Patel over long-on for a maximum in the 17th over.
