Varun Tomar
clinched India's 14th Olympic quota by securing a gold medal in the men's 10m
Air Pistol
event at the
Asian Qualifiers
on Monday.
Tomar's outstanding score of 239.6 in the final earned him the top position, while
Arjun Cheema
claimed the silver with a score of 237.3. Mongolia's Davaakhuu Enkhtaivan secured the bronze medal with a score of 217.2.
The 20-year-old Tomar's achievement marked India's successful start at the continental event, securing three medals on the opening day.
Earlier, Tomar, along with Arjun Cheema and Ujjawal Malik, contributed to India's gold medal in the 10m air pistol team event, where they collectively shot a total of 1740. Iran and Korea secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

A total of 16 quota places for the
Paris Olympics
are available at the Asian Qualifiers, and the 10m air pistol events offer four quotas for men and women, with a maximum of three for Indian shooters.
India's strong representation in shooting continued as Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan, and Surbhi Rao geared up to compete in the women's 10m air pistol event, aiming to secure a Paris quota for India.
The Asian Qualifiers, hosted at the Senayan Shooting Range in Jakarta, will see 385 athletes from 26 countries vying for 256 medals, including 84 gold, 84 silver, and 88 bronze, in addition to the coveted Paris Olympic quotas.
Prior to this tournament, India had already secured 13 Olympic quota places in shooting across rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines, highlighting the nation's prowess in the sport.
