NEW DELHI:
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
, a teenager from Bihar, has made headlines by making his first-class debut in the ongoing season of the
Ranji Trophy
. Vaibhav, who claims to be just 12 years old, has entered the history books as one of the youngest debutants in India's first-class cricket, surpassing the early milestones set by legends like
Sachin Tendulkar
and
Yuvraj Singh
.
Vaibhav marked his debut in a Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna, becoming part of the 38 teams competing in 19 matches across various venues in the country.
If Vaibhav's age claim is accurate, he would be younger than Yuvraj Singh, who made his maiden first-class appearance at 15 years and 57 days, and Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 15 years and 230 days.
The young batter had previously represented the India B U19 team in a Quadrangular Under-19 series last year, showcasing his talent with 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries.
Vaibhav further impressed at the
Vinoo Mankad
Trophy, finishing as the eighth-highest run-scorer with 393 runs and an impressive average of 78.60, featuring one century and three half-centuries.
In an interview, Vaibhav shared that he began playing cricket at the age of nine, receiving early guidance from his father. Known for his fondness for the pull shot, the young cricketer is now making waves on the domestic circuit.
The debutant's inclusion has sparked interest and excitement, as fans eagerly watch the young talent make his mark in the prestigious tournament.
