NEW DELHI:
Rohit Sharma
will lead a 15-member India squad at the ICC Men's
T20 World Cup
2024, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29. India will kick off their World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and face off against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 at the same venue.
All-rounder
Hardik Pandya
will be Rohit's deputy during the tournament.
Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg on Wednesday selected his preferred Team India XI for the T20 World Cup, suggesting that India's batting star
Virat Kohli
should open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma at the cricketing extravaganza.
"The eleven that I will see play the first game would be Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open the batting. Kohli's role is to bat through the innings knowing that he can really take the game away from the opposition. (Rohit) Sharma needs to be more aggressive in the Powerplay," Hogg said in a video posted on his social media handle.
"Sanju Samson, SKY, and Pant coming in at 3, 4 and 5. All three of them are very aggressive batsmen with high strike rates. Pandya, Jadeja and Axar Patel to come in at 6, 7, and 8. I know there are two spinners there but you need extra batting depth knowing that you are lacking in pace bowling. Axar and Jadeja are two different types of bowlers as well. So, there is enough variety between two of them," Hogg further said.
"Kuldeep Yadav at 9. He is the best wicket-taking bowling option in the Caribbean. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, at 10 and 11, as the pace options. Arshdeep to bowl the majority of his overs in the Powerplay and Bumrah using most of his overs in the death. The weak link there is using Pandya in the death overs that could be a hole that they can't fill," the former Australian spinner said.
