NEW YORK (PIX11) – After eight Grammy wins, multiple tours and bringing down the Super Bowl, Usher has a new achievement under his belt – BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
BET announced Thursday that the beloved “Yeah!” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” singer will receive this year’s prestigious honor at the June 30 BET Awards ceremony.
“We believe in giving flowers over here, and that's why are honoring THEE Usher Raymond with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement BET Award,” BET representatives wrote on X. “With a career spanning over three decades, the R&B crooner has proven he is the ONE and not the two!”
Usher, whose debut album was released in 1994, is currently on his “Past, Present, Future” tour and was recently announced as a headliner for Essence Festival in New Orleans this summer.
“We’ve watched this icon give us LEGENDARY moments on our stage for over 20 years,” BET representatives said.
Last year, Busta Rhymes took home the Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2022, Sean "Diddy" Combs received the award.
The BET Awards will air live at 8 p.m. June 30 on BET. Usher is up for four other awards including Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, competing against the likes of Bryson Tiller, Burna Boy, Drake and Chris Brown.
In the women’s category, superstars like Beoncé, SZA and Doja Cat will compete for the title.
The ceremony will include a tribute to Usher for his lifetime achievement honor, and performances by Victoria Monét, Sexyy Redd and Latto.
