USC Commit Reveals the 1 Trojans Legend Who Made Him Nervous originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Recruits often become starstruck in meeting a past legendary player from the school they commit to. USC 2026 commit Esun Tafa, however, admitted he became nervous meeting one Trojans legend.
Tafa shared the playfully nervous moment with Scott Schrader of On3 Tuesday. The four-star revealed Ronnie Lott called him out during a panel discussion on his recruiting trip during the weekend of June 13-15.
"Ronnie Lott called me up to the panel to ask a couple of questions. I think he thought I was a current player. I was so nervous lol," Tafa shared with Schrader. "That will definitely stay with me forever."
Lott once was a intimidating presence on the football field. The safety became revered for his fierce hits across the middle of the field. He established himself as a dominating defender at USC before becoming a Super Bowl winning defensive back for the San Francisco 49ers. The Pro Football Hall of Famer Lott is still revered on the USC campus.
Not everything about the Lott meeting was nerve-wrecking, though. Tafa called the experience an "awesome" one in the end. He also met another USC legend in Marcus Allen.
"Getting to meet and listen to Marcus Allen and Ronnie Lott was so awesome,” said Tafa. “Their stories and experiences that put them on the path to USC was really inspiring."
Tafa is now inspired to carry the legacy bequeathed by the revered past Trojans. He's among the reasons why USC skyrocketed to the top of the 2026 recruiting rankings. Tafa is one of 18 four-star commits pledged to USC's class.
The powerful 6-foot-4, 305-pounder is the state of Utah's No. 4 overall prospect by 247Sports. USC offensive line coach Zach Hanson completed the recruitment of the swing guard/tackle. Tafa is one of six offensive line commits for USC.
