NEW DELHI: The
White House
has confirmed that
US president Joe Biden
is scheduled to speak with
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu
on Sunday.
According to the official, the call will focus on the
hostage situation
.
This comes following Netanyahu's remarks on Sunday that he had not spoken to the US president since he called Israel's response to Hamas as being 'over the top.'
In an interview aired on ABC the Israeli PM said, "I appreciate President Biden's support for Israel since the beginning of the war.
I don't know exactly what he meant by that."
During the interview, Netanyahu justified Israel's ongoing war stating that, "Enough of 132 remaining Israeli hostages alive to warrant Gaza war."
"We're going to try to do our best to get all those who are alive back and, frankly, also the bodies of the dead," he added.
Netanyahu also stated that for each Hamas fighter killed in Gaza, one Palestinian civilian has also been killed.
Health authorities in Gaza, which is under Hamas' control, estimate that around 28,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have died since the conflict started in October.
