UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – The violent robbery of a cellphone on the Upper East Side is possibly connected to the robbery ring allegedly run by migrants, according to sources.

A 24-year-old woman was walking near Madison Avenue and East 75th Street on Sunday when two people approached her, according to authorities. Police said the duo put the victim into a headlock and pulled her hair, forcing her to the ground before they took her cellphone.

A doorman stepped in as the suspects attempted to steal more things from the woman, according to authorities.

The NYPD recently busted a group of migrant “ghost criminals” who allegedly robbed more than 60 people over the past few months. Police are still looking for the group's alleged leader, 30-year-old Victor Parra, who came to New York City from Venezuela last year.
