NEW DELHI: English fast bowler
Lauren Bell
has opted out of the upcoming
Women's Premier League
(
WPL
) season, prompting
UP Warriorz
to announce Sri Lanka's
Chamari Athapaththu
as her replacement.
Athapaththu, a formidable force in the cricketing world known for her powerful hitting, will be joining the team for her base price of Rs 30 lakh, according to a statement from the WPL.
As one of the most experienced players with over 120 T20Is under her belt, Athapaththu brings a wealth of expertise to the team. Renowned for her aggressive batting style, she holds the distinction of being the only Sri Lankan woman to score a century in T20 Internationals.
Despite her impressive track record, Athapaththu faced a surprising snub during the WPL auction in December. Nevertheless, her inclusion as a replacement for Bell adds a significant boost to Warriorz.
The second edition of the WPL is scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 17, spanning venues in Delhi and Bengaluru. Athapaththu's dynamic presence is anticipated to make a substantial impact on Warriorz' campaign in the upcoming season.
