Unni Mukundan-starrer Marco is being touted as the most gory film that India has ever produced. The Malayalam film, which was released in December 2024, has found an audience pan-India and has already breached the Rs 100-crore mark in India. In an exclusive interview with India Today Digital, actor Unni Mukundan shared that almost 300 litres of blood-like substance was used while shooting Marco. In fact, he also posed a risk of losing his vision because of the substance.

During the conversation, Unni Mukundan revealed that almost 250-300 litres of a substance that looked like blood was used during the shoot of the film. He shared, "It was a chemical with a lot of sugar in it. So, if you are diabetic, you should not be a part of a film with such bloodshed (laughs). It's too sweet."

Mukundan also shared that he took a significant risk without quite realising the dangers of it. "I had trouble because I had to put a certain type of chemical in the eye, just to make it look more red and authentic," the actor said. However, he could have lost his vision because of that. "Because of temperature changes, this material would get sticky. My doctor later told me that it could have literally damaged my eyes. I shouldn't have done it," he admitted.

So, why did he take such a huge risk? "What happens with filmmakers, and actors, who enjoy the technical aspects of filmmaking, is that once you get into the groove, everything is justified. You enjoy it, and you get into a trance," Unni Mukundan explained.

Marco was released in Hindi alongside Malayalam on December 20. The film, directed by Haneef Adeni, is a spin-off of the 2019 Malayalam film, Mikhael. The Telugu and Tamil versions of the film were released on January 1 and 3 respectively. The film has already become one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2024, with its theatrical run still continuing successfully.
