NEW YORK (PIX11) – Meow Wolf New York City is set to open at Pier 17 at the Seaport.
Making its way from the Southwest, this trippy, out-of-this-world interactive experience is arriving in the Big Apple.
The announcement to come to New York City was made in a South by Southwest panel Monday.
Meow Wolf began in 2008 as a small collective of Santa Fe artists united by their interest in publicly showcasing their works. This collaboration evolved into Meow Wolf's distinctive style of immersive audience-driven experiences.
Meow Wolf has since expanded to Las Vegas, Dallas, and Denver locations.
“The energy of New York City is unlike anywhere else, and it’s the perfect place for Meow Wolf,” said Jose Tolosa, CEO of Meow Wolf. “This city has given the world so much groundbreaking art and culture, and as someone who has proudly called New York City home for over ten years, I’m beyond thrilled that we’re bringing something truly unique to the greatest city in the world.”
Meow Wolf exhibitions are renowned for not fitting into categories. They’re part maze, part selfie museums, mixed with an immersive experience. The company has referred to their installations as interactive universes filled with layers of narrative, where every visitor becomes part of the story.
