QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – Two Queens subway stations got a deep clean and renovations including new LED lights and revamped benches.

Jamaica’s Sutphin Boulevard–Archer Av–JFK Airport E, J and Z station got a new coat of paint, new LED lights and repaired stairways, the MTA announced Sunday.

The station's platforms were also repaired to remove tripping hazards, officials said.

“These enhancements will not only elevate the aesthetic appeal but also improve functionality, making my daily commute smoother and more enjoyable,” said Council Member Nantasha Williams.

The Jamaica–Van Wyck E train station also got a facelift, with scrubbed platforms, floor tile repairs, and repainted surfaces. Subway and bus maps and signage were updated and much of the station also repainted, officials said.

Platform benches at the station were sanded and restained.

The queens stations join 70 others citywide to get repairs and deep cleanings as part of the MTA’s “Re-NEW-vation Program.” The repairs can include unclogging drains, new HVAC systems and new subway tiles and signs.

And a handful of stations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx are still slate for renovations, including:

  • 170 Street 4 train
  • Marble Hill-225 Street 1 train
  • Shepherd Avenue C train
  • Sutter Avenue-Rutland Road 3 train
  • Second Avenue F train

“Our city’s subway stations should be inviting and welcoming places that encourage New Yorkers to use mass transit,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr.
