The sensex closed above the 77,000 level for the first time, and broader

Nifty

scaled a fresh peak on Tuesday as key equity indices stayed on the

record-breaking run

powered by renewed

foreign fund inflows

. The country's

stock market value

also settled above $5 trillion for the first time.
The country's

equity market

has joined the ranks of the US, China, Japan and Hong Kong after topping the threshold.

It took India about six months to add the latest $1 trillion to the capitalisation of companies listed on its exchanges.
Rising for the third straight session, the sensex climbed 308 points or 0.4% to settle at a new closing peak of 77,301. During the day, it jumped 374 points or 0.5% to hit a fresh lifetime peak of 77,367.

Nifty went up by 92 points or 0.4% to hit a record closing high of 23,558 for the fourth straight session. It rallied 113 points or 0.5% to hit the new all-time high of 23,579 during the day trade.
