BHUBANESWAR: A 24-year-old transperson was arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of his
live-in partner
, who was found dead in his home at Jankia,
Khurda district
, on Tuesday.
The arrested person was identified as Somanatha Lathi, who was absconding for two days.
According to the police, Rashmiranjan Baliarsingh (31) was found lying in a pool of blood by his mother.

killing
his partner. Lathi said he had become jealous after coming to know that Baliarsingh was having an affair with another woman.
Police said Lathi and Baliarsingh were jatra artistes and had met during a performance in a village. “In 2017, the two met and subsequently, they developed a relationship,” Khurda ASP Surendranath Murmu said.
Lathi had been living in Baliarsingh’s house for the past seven years and wanted to marry him, police said.
Trouble started after Baliarsingh became close to a woman performer. “I feared that I might be forced to separate from my partner,” Lathi said on way to court.
On January 2, Lathi and Baliarsingh picked a fight and in a fit of rage, Lathi smashed Baliarsingh’s head with an iron rod which was in the house,” a police officer said. Lathi then locked the room from outside and fled. On Tuesday afternoon, Baliarsingh’s mother discovered his body.
