MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Traffic lights have slowed down on Third Avenue in Manhattan – and it's all to benefit cyclists.
The New York Times reported that a 2-mile stretch between 60th and 96th streets on the Upper East Side will now have traffic signals reset to 15 mph for cars. It was previously 25 mph.
The New York City Department of Transportation calls the plan a “green wave” – giving priority to cyclists.
The department shared on social media Monday a link to the New York Times article about the change with a Kendrick Lamar photo from the Super Bowl that reads, "when you hit that third avenue green wave.”
