NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a publich health alert for for bags of frozen chicken pilaf sold at Trader Joe's.
The department issued an alert on Wednesday due to concerns that the "chicken pilaf product that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically rocks," the department said.
Trader Joe's no longer sells the product so a recall was not issued. The 14-oz. Trader Joe’s Chicken, Lentil, & Caramelized Onion Pilaf with Saffron Basmati Rice, Dark Chicken Meat, Dates & Golden Raisins was produced from Nov. 1, 2023 through Jan. 19.
Several consumers complained of rocks in the chicken pilaf, and one reported a "dental injury" from eating the dish.
While the item is no longer sold the FSIS is concerned that it may be some consumer's freezers.
"Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume them. This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the department said.
