7 months ago 11

A Versace sample sale in New York City was thrown into chaos and had to be temporarily shut down after fights broke out, forcing the NYPD to get involved to bring the situation under control.

The sale, which promised staggering discounts of up to 80% off on luxury items from the iconic fashion house, attracted a massive crowd even before the doors opened.

“Versace Sample Sale coming to New York March 27-30. Up to 80% Off Shoes, Handbags, Jewelry,  Clothing, Belts, Sunglasses and more,” said one social media post promoting the sale. “There will be items for Women, Men and Kids.”

“The sale was sold out in Miami and Atlanta. It is going to be a Massive Sale in New York,” the post added. But organizers surely did not anticipate having to temporarily shut down the sale due to fights among shoppers.

After social media posts hyped up the Versace sample sale, some dedicated shoppers camped out for hours in anticipation, creating a line that wrapped around the block on Wednesday morning.

The situation outside the store quickly escalated as the crowd’s size led to chaos. Videos that surfaced online captured shoppers getting aggressive and pushing each other to set foot inside the store.

Inside the store, the atmosphere was no better, as shoppers seemed ready to put up a fight to get their hands on the highly coveted merchandise.

The competition for the luxury goods turned so intense that NYPD officers were forced to step in and bring order. The cops cleared the entire block of shoppers, and the store had to temporarily bring the sale to a screeching halt.

Numerous videos surfaced online, with frenzied shoppers narrating the chaos that ensued among the deal-hungry crowd.

“People ran to the front, and then they stayed at the front, and then the people in the second batch argued about it, and then total chaos ensued,” one man reportedly said in a video. “So now there’s a whole gabble in the front, people are not moving their cars, people are fighting the staff, people are fighting each other.”

Several people were disappointed over the sale being temporarily closed due to the fights.

“I can’t believe it. I came all the way to New York for the Versace sample sale and left with nothing. Because of fighting and stealing, they shut the whole thing down,” said one woman, who noted in her TikTok video that the sale was meant to begin on Wednesday and go on till Saturday.

“We’re not even sure if they’re going to open it up tomorrow,” she added.

One woman claimed a girl had to leave in an ambulance and told people not to come down to the store.

“If you were thinking about coming to the New York City Versace sale, don’t come,” she said in a TikTok video.

“It’s ghetto here. It’s ghetto. It got shut down. They even broke the glass of one of the doors,” she went on to say. “They’ve been fighting each other. Some girl had to leave out in the ambulance because she got trampled.”

A number of social media users took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain about the frenzy caused by the sale.

“Some people will sacrifice necessities, just to have the ‘right’ labels on. Smh,” one person wrote in a tweet

In one video, a TikTok user said the sale only lasted for about 35 minutes

“Rushing the door for a Versace sample sale is egregious behavior lmao,” another wrote.

“The NYC Versace sample sale ending in 35 minutes bc y’all don’t know how to act is wild,” another quipped.

The event organizers, The Sample Sale Guys, shared an update on Instagram and said the event would no longer be open to the public.

“Just a friendly reminder that the event will be closed. We will no longer be open to the public for the remainder of the event,” The Sample Sale Guys said in an Instagram Story.

“Versace sale ended before it started, but I got in,” said one TikToker, who managed to get inside the store

“Please do not waste your time and money coming thinking you might still get in. The event will NOT be open to the public. Sorry for the inconvenience,” the message added.

Eventbrite also wrote on its website that the sale was closed on Wednesday and no longer open to the public.

“Due to the overwhelming demand, the Versace Sale will be closed today. The sale will no longer be open to the public. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the message said.

People online were baffled by how quickly the situation escalated due to the sale
