NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The Michelin Guide has announced the first selection of hotels to be awarded Michelin Keys in the United States, with 24 located in New York City.

The Michelin Guide is known globally for restaurant ratings, with anonymous Michelin Inspectors awarding stars to restaurants based off of a set of criteria. The Guide adopted a new rating system for hotels, awarding Michelin Keys beginning in 2024.

The hotels are selected after anonymous stays by The MICHELIN Guide’s hotel experts. Similarly to Michelin stars, the Michelin Keys are based off of a set of criteria.

Hotels with one Michelin Key are considered special stays and gems that have their own character and personality.

Hotels awarded two Michelin Keys offer an exceptional stay where a memorable experience is guaranteed. Factors taken into consideration are eye-catching architecture or design, and a real sense of the locale.

Lastly, the prestigious three Michelin Keys are given to hotels that are considered one of the world's most remarkable and extraordinary hotels.
