NEW DELHI: On an evening at
Chinnaswamy
where records were broken one after another and
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
succumbed to a dreadful fifth straight defeat, their stumper-batter
Dinesh Karthik
had a night to remember as he smoked an unreal 35-ball 83 in the improbable chase of 288.
In a record-shattering contest that had 549 runs scored by two teams combined, RCB ended up on the losing side by a margin of a mere 25 runs.
And the batter who gave the hosts a sniff of a win was none other than Karthik, who impressed everyone with his Midas touch.
Soon after Karthik's whirlwind knock that mesmerised the fans at the Chinnaswamy, social media erupted with messages rooting for Karthik's inclusion in the upcoming
T20 World Cup
in June.
In RCB's last game against Mumbai Indians, where Karthik scored an unbeaten 53, India skipper
Rohit Sharma
also teased him, saying that the keeper-batter is eyeing a slot in the T2o World Cup squad.
Karthik has been in incredible form this season of the IPL, scoring 226 runs in 7 games, coming lower down the order for RCB.
The 38-year-old already has a couple of impressive fifties to his name and his runs have come at a strike rate of over 205.
Earlier, Karthik hinted that the 2024 edition of the IPL will be his last. He also will decide his international retirement after the IPL.
The T20 World Cup this year will take place in the Caribbean and the US and Team India for the tournament is set to be announced at the end of this month, as per several reports.
