The USB Type-C dongles that are used for connecting devices, charging phones, can now work against bug bites. Hard to imagine, right? But recently a new USB-C dongle has been launched in the market, which can actually heal insect bites using heat.
Kamedi, a German company, has unveiled the 'Heat-It' USB Type-C dongle, claiming it can soothe and even heal itchy mosquito, horsefly, or wasp stings.
This tiny gadget fits into your phone's Type-C port and features a metal surface that generates heat. Simply plug it in and use the accompanying Android or iOS app to customize the heat treatment duration. Worried about sensitivity? The app offers child-friendly or sensitive skin modes that adjust the temperature accordingly, providing relief through a targeted heat of about 51 degrees Celsius (123.8 degrees Fahrenheit) over the affected area.
Kamedi supports its claims with a study published in the Swedish journal Acta Dermato-Venereologica. The study, conducted with the Heat-It, marks the first controlled real-world research on concentrated heat's effect on relieving itch from insect bites or stings. With over 12,000 treatments on 1,700 individuals, the findings affirm a significant reduction in itch and pain.
This innovation offers a high-tech solution to an age-old problem. While previously people might have resorted to a hot spoon dipped in boiling water or a warm cup, the Heat-It dongle provides a more convenient solution, especially outdoors or during hikes when these options aren't readily available. Its app-driven customization allows for precise adjustments in heat and duration, surpassing the capabilities of a regular hot spoon.
While prevention through bug sprays remains ideal, the versatility of the USB-C standard allows the Heat-It to work with both iPhones and Android devices, thanks to the European Union's adoption of this standard.
Although we haven't personally tested these devices, for those bitten by bugs and fond of USB-C technology, the Heat-It dongle is available on Amazon US and UK. It presents a modern approach to tackling an age-old annoyance, promising relief at your fingertips whenever you encounter those irritating bites.
