Developer Pocketpair
recently launched a new title named
Palworld
that has a unique premise related to
Pokemon
. The game maker has taken to social media platform X to announce that the latest title has sold a million copies in just over eight hours on the launch day. The developers also revealed that the title has been such a hit among users that the game’s servers went down under a lot of stress as millions of players logged in to play.
The developer has asked the players to remain patient as it’s “working to resolve this ASAP!”
According to a report by GamesRadar, the huge number of downloads and concurrent players have made this the biggest Steam launch of the year (so far). Apart from Steam, the game was launched on Xbox Game Pass. So, the total downloads is expected to be much higher than the ones revealed by the developer that doesn’t include the ones done on Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Palworld: Price and availability
The developers have confirmed that this is an early access build, reports Engadget. So, the title’s gameplay is expected to be smoother in the coming months. The game is priced at $30 on Steam, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can also play the game for free.
Palworld: More details
This game has a dark theme and is very different from traditional Pokemon titles. In this game, instead of releasing unwanted monsters, called Pals, back into the wild, players have to murder them with a cleaver. Players can also sell their “Pals” into slavery, eat them or battle them to the death. One of the game’s trailers also shows piles of stacked
Pal
corpses.

The title seems to offer a satirical take on the very nature of Pokémon. The original franchise usually forces players to fight their friends to increase their own reputation.
