NEW YORK (PIX11) – The world’s best pizza is not in Italy, according to a new ranking.
Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City has claimed the title from the website Top 50 Pizza. The Lower East Side eatery beat out two pizza restaurants in Naples, Italy to snag the prestigious title.
Last year, Una Pizza Napoletana was ranked second, and two years ago, they tied for the No. 1 spot.
In winning the award, Una Pizza Napoletana was cited for offering "Only the purest tradition in toppings, with extraordinary quality ingredients."
Anyone who wants to try a pie will have to wait, though. The pizzeria is closed through Oct. 3 while the team is in Italy.
"We apologize for the inconvenience but look forward to welcoming you in when we return on Friday, Oct. 4," the website states.
50 Top Pizza highlights pizza culture around the world. It features pizzerias in various rankings that showcase trends and industry advancements.
