Elections in India are the festival of democracy. A day when people visit polling booths and exercise their rights by casting their votes to determine the future of the country.

This democratic spirit was taken a notch higher by election officers as they astutely devised a way to celebrate this festival of democracy with a unique concept - decking up a polling booth in Mysuru in the intriguing ambience of a traditional South Indian wedding.

The excitement was palpable as the election officers, as part of their unique innovation, were dressed up in typical South Indian wedding attire. The men adorning a shalya (a loose cloth to cover the upper portion of the body), petha (an opulent formal turban), dhoti and white kurta, were a sight to behold.

They weren't just officers facilitating the polling process but hosts welcoming people to an extravagant event.

The polling booth was transformed beyond recognition, turning into a lively venue with a theme based on a South Indian wedding. The entrance was decorated with banana leaves, a customary sight in South Indian weddings.

A message was etched strategically on the entrance wall of the polling booth which read, "Let's celebrate the festival of democracy. Without fail, come and cast your vote."

Fourteen of 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka went to polls on Friday. Voting in the remaining 14 seats will be held in the third phase of Lok Sabha polls on May 7.
