Apple
has claimed seven out of the top ten best-selling
smartphones
globally in
2023
, dominating the list revealed in a recent report by Canalys. The
iPhone
14 Pro Max took the top spot with 34 million units shipped, followed closely by the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 33 million.
The premium iPhone lineup accounted for four models in the top ten, indicating strong demand for Apple's newest iPhones.
Besides the 14 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro took seventh place with 21 million units sold, while the iPhone 15 rounded out the top ten with 17 million units.
Ranked at number six, the iPhone 13 has exhibited remarkable durability as the only 2021 release that sold over 20 million units in 2023.
While Apple flourished at the high end,
Samsung
succeeded in the mid-range category. The company's Galaxy A14 4G eclipsed all other Samsung models as the third
best-selling
smartphone globally, moving 21 million units on its affordable price point. Two other A-Series devices made the top ten - the Galaxy A54 5G at number five with 20 million sold and the Galaxy A14 5G at number nine with 19 million.
"Apple's dominance shows the incredible demand for advanced iPhones even at premium prices," said Chris Jones, Canalys Research Analyst. "On Samsung's side, affordability proved essential, with lower-cost A-Series devices leading the way."
Capturing the seven spots out of ten in Canalys’ top-selling smartphones for 2023, Apple separately emerged as the market leader last year. IDC data reveals Apple shipped 234.6 million smartphones last year, narrowly beating out Samsung's 226.6 million. This is the first-time that Apple has beaten Samsung since the launch of the first iPhone in 2008. Meanwhile, in India, the iPhone-maker witnessed a 50 per cent year-on-year growth in Q4 2023, shipping nearly 3 million iPhone models.
