Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray referred to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at an event in East Mumbai’s Kurla on Monday and said dictatorship had reached the nation’s doorstep and saving India’s freedom was the need of the hour.
Uddhav Thackeray said, "The country is going through a tough time. Who will save the country? If we make a mistake this time, there will be dictatorship in the country."
"The country needs freedom. There was a time when we fought for freedom, and now we have to fight to keep this freedom. I’ll do whatever I can do. There is an environment of confusion in the country. Dictatorship has come to our doorstep. We have to stop it," he added.
Addressing a Jain community event, he urged people not to make any mistakes in the upcoming general polls. He sought blessings from the Jain seers and said, "I have come here to seek blessings from you. Not for any personal gain. I have the blessings of my parents and I want to make them proud. I have come here to seek your blessings for the country."
The Shiv Sena, founded by Balasaheb Thackeray, split in June last year with a large chunk of MLAs led by Eknath Shinde joining hands with the BJP. Shiv Sena (UBT) is a part of the opposition INDIA bloc alliance that was formed to outnumber the BJP in the 2024 polls.
After the 2019 Maharashtra polls, the Shiv Sena, then led by Uddhav Thackeray, severed its ties with the BJP and joined hands with the NCP and the Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
