NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- Lawmakers are set to announce the nation's "Pizza Capital" on Wednesday, and it's not New York City.

A delagation of pizzamakers from Connecticut will declare New Haven, Connecticut as the nation's "pizza capital," to Congress. The delegation is organized by Connecticut's Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Newsweek reported.

"New Haven has the best pizza in the country — and it is not even close," DeLauro said to Newsweek. "Ask anyone from Connecticut and they will tell you Connecticut pizza, or 'apizza' as we call it, is hands down — no contest — the best pizza in America."

Mayor Eric Adams dimissed the declaration on Tuesday, saying that New York City is the "king of pizza."

"It's all right for them to be number two and they can vie over number three, but number one is ruled by this great, amazing city," Adams said.
