NEW DELHI: Indian pacer
Mohammed Shami
has taken to social media to provide an update on his recovery journey after undergoing surgery to fix an injured ankle. Shami, known for his fiery pace and deadly accuracy, shared a message of determination and resilience, expressing his eagerness to return to the field despite the challenges ahead.
In a post on 'X,' accompanied by a photo of himself on the crutches, Shami wrote, "Back on track and hungry for success.
The road may be tough, but the destination is worth it."
The star paceman's surgery in February came as a setback, ruling him out of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and potentially the
T20 World Cup
scheduled for June-July.
Shami's absence from these crucial tournaments raises concerns for the
Indian cricket
team, given his pivotal role as a frontline bowler.
Shami's absence was keenly felt during India's recent cricketing endeavours, notably missing the South Africa tour and the five-match Test series against England following his standout performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Despite battling through injury during the World Cup, Shami emerged as the tournament's highest-wicket taker.
With uncertainty looming over his return date,
BCCI
secretary
Jay Shah
hinted at a potential comeback for Shami during India's series against Bangladesh in September. However, this timeline rules him out of contention for the T20 World Cup, depriving India of one of their key assets in the marquee event.
