TIRUPATI: Tension gripped the

Punganur

assembly constituency where followers of state minister

Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy

and activists of the Bharata Chaitanya Yuvajana party (

BCY

) almost clashed with each other even as high drama prevailed at the Somala police station around midnight on Thursday.
Trouble began when the BCY activists started distributing publicity material among the public related to the

Rythu Bheri

programme scheduled to be held at

Sadum mandal

headquarters today.

When minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy's followers raised objections to the content of the publicity material citing that the content was demeaning the minister, the two groups entered into a heated altercation and nearly 15 activists of the BCY party including women were taken to the Somala police station.
BCY party founder president Bode Ramachandra Yadav later reached the police station and questioned the local police how they could detain women activists of the party at the police station past midnight.

A state of ruckus prevailed at the Somala police station when both BCY and YSRCP activists raised slogans against each other. The situation came under control for a brief while after the women activists were released by the police.
"Addressing a press conference on Friday, Bode Ramachandra Yadav lashed out at the police department for dancing to the tunes of the local minister even after the court categorically directed the police to give necessary permission to conduct the Rythu Bheri programme at Sadum today", BCY chief lamented.

"The local police denied permission for the Rythu Bheri programme citing law and order situation despite the court orders. While opposition party leaders are being detained, the ruling party has roped in a 200-member strong private army who are freely roaming in the roads and the police department has no problems with that", Ramachandra Yadav alleged.
The BCY chief stated that he will once again approach the court and will conduct the Rythu Bheri programme to expose the injustice being meted out to the dairy and mango farmers in Punganur assembly constituency where they are forced to sell their produce at low prices or for loss to the dairy and pulp units belonging to the local minister.
