NEW YORK (PIX11) -- You may be getting old, but if you are anything like these five albums, you only get better with age.
These groundbreaking R&B albums were the soundtrack of 1974.
Here are five R&B albums turning 50 in 2024:
- “Let Me in Your Life,” Aretha Franklin
Released in February 1974, this was the “Queen of Souls" 20th studio album. The album features “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing" and “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do.)”
- “Perfect Angel,” Minnie Riperton
Released in August 1974, this was Riperton's second album, which featured the No.1 hit “Lovin' You.” It highlighted the singer's five-octave vocal range. It spent two weeks at number one and was written as a lullaby song for Riperton’s daughter, now-actress Maya Rudolph.
“Lovin' You” is considered one of the top 50 love songs of all time, according to Billboard.
- “Dancing Machine,” The Jackson 5
Released in September 1974, the album included songs like "I Am Love" and "Whatever, You Got, I Want.” This was their last album to chart on Billboard while the group was under contract with Berry Gordy’s Motown.
- “Can’t Get Enough,” Barry White
Released in August 1974, this was White’s third studio album. It features “You’re My Last My Everything” and “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe,” which was listed as a hit and spent a week at No.1 on the Billboard.
- “Rags to Rufus” by Rufus
Released in May 1974, this was the second album by the Chicago Funk band fronted by “Queen of Funk,” Chaka Khan. The album features the track “Tell Me Something Good,” which was written by Stevie Wonder. “Rags to Rufus” earned the Funk band a Grammy and became certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America netting over a million in sales.
