THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A teenager was shot in the Bronx Sunday night, according to the NYPD.
The shooting occurred outside of a subway station in front of 953 Southern Blvd. at around 9:21 p.m., police said.
The 13-year-old from Manhattan was shot twice, in the left shin and the left heel, police said.
A group of 15 to 20 other youths were walking when they engaged in a verbal dispute with two males on Citi Bikes, according to the NYPD.
The males on the Citi Bikes allegedly asked the victim if he is Ewok or if he is "top five," which is a rival gang in that area, police said. The victim said no, but guns were pulled and the victim was shot.
The teen was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to police. The victim told police he was walking with his cousin to the train to go to a party.
Social media posts indicate that the victim is part of a gang called the EBK, police said.
Police said there's no reason why the EBK would be fighting with gangs in the Bronx. In this scenario, police believe that the shooters saw a group of kids they didn't recognize, confronted them about what gang they were in, and that led to shots being fired.
