Tamil Nadu: Patient at govt hospital kills self by slitting his throat

SALEM: A patient who was under treatment at the Salem government Mohan Kumaramangalam medical college and hospital (

SGMKMCH

) died by suicide on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as K Anandhan, 48, of Johnson Pettai in the city. He was working at a sofa repair unit in the city.
He was diagnosed with diabetes and had fallen ill after he sustained wounds on his legs and could not go to work for the last few weeks.

Anandhan was admitted to the hospital's male ward and his brother Raja was staying with him. When Raja woke up around 7am, he found his brother dead, with blood oozing out of his throat.
A blade was found in between the deceased's fingers. Raja alerted the doctors and nurses who in turn alerted the GH outpost police of the incident. "Preliminary inquiry revealed that Anandhan's wife Asha, 40, and their 13-year-old daughter had separated from him over a family feud, and he was upset over it," said a police officer, adding that he was further upset over his ill health. Anandhan had moved to his brother, Raja's house after the separation.
