NEW DELHI: The United States team got a major blow on Wednesday as their regular skipper
Monank Patel
has been ruled out due to shoulder injury just before the start of the crucial
T20 World Cup
clash against India in New York.
Star batter
Aaron Jones
replaced Patel as captain for this game. The severity of the injury is not known yet and one can hope that Patel might recover for USA's last Group game against Ireland on Friday.
However, skipper
Rohit Sharma
won the toss and opted to bowl against the USA as India remain unchanged, while the tournament's co-host made two changes to their playing eleven with
Shayan Jahangir
replacing Patel and
Shadley van Schalkwyk
is in for left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige.
"We will bowl first. It has played better in the last two games, but you need to assess the conditions quickly and then let the game take over. It's all about constantly getting better and keeping the momentum going. It's important to do the right things. That was a great game to play, we didn't have enough runs on the board, but the bowlers came to the party and won the game for us. We're playing the same team," Rohit said at the toss.
USA's stand-in skipper Jones said they were looking to play some good cricket and the camp is very positive.
"We would have bowled first as well, there's some help for the bowlers early. He's having a niggle and should be back quickly. It should be a good game and we're looking to play well. The camp is very positive, just looking to play some good cricket. Shayan Jahangir replaces Monank and Shadley is in for Nosthush," Jones said.
