Swastika Mukherjee

could not exercise her

democratic right

as a citizen of India during the

Lok Sabha elections

this year. The actress took to Instagram and shared a video in which she spoke about how she couldn't cast her vote. She was not alone. Her sister, Ajopa Mukehrjee, too, could not cast her vote because both of their names were not on the list.

But that bitter experience did not stop Swastika from congratulating

Saayoni Ghosh

, the actor-politician who won from the

Jadavpur Constituency

Swastika took to social media on Wednesday and posted a photo where she was planting a kiss on Saayoni’s cheeks at an event. The ‘Bhooter Bhabishyat’ actress posted that photo on her social media profile with a simple caption, “Congratulations, Saayoni Ghosh.” Saayoni was gracious enough to respond to her wishes, and she thanked her in the comments.

On June 1, Swastika and her sister Ajopa had a bitter experience when they stepped out to cast their vote. The actress called it a "frustrating experience" as both she and her sister were unable to cast their votes. While Swastika had lost her voting card, her sister Ajopa, despite having a voting card, couldn't exercise her right to vote. The actress said that she lost her mother in 2015 and her father in 2020, and although both her parents have passed away, their names are on the list. Swastika mentioned that people who were staying in the same building as hers too had their names on the list. Even those who had left society long ago had their names on the voting list. Swastika said that the only two exceptions were her and her sister. She also shared that she decided to take up the matter and seek answers from the authorities.

On the other hand, Saayoni Ghosh secured a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha election with over four lakh votes. Saayoni contested from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha Constituency for this year’s general elections. She defeated the BJP's candidate Anirban Ganguly and the CPI’s candidate Srijan Bhattacharya by over 2.5 lakh votes.
