Suspicious package found at Newark federal court: Officials

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) -- A suspicious package containing an "unknown white powdery substance" was delivered to a federal court in Newark Monday morning, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

The substance was deemed non-hazardous, and no one was injured, according to Miranda. The package arrived at a loading dock area around 9:39 a.m. at the courthouse on Walnut Street, officials said.

Firefighters tested the substance to determine it was non-hazardous, but officials are still investigating the package.

Monday morning, a hazmat tent was set up outside the courthouse.
